Fairway Creek Retrievers is a member of DOGS NSW and the ANKC (Australian National Kennel Club). The ANKC is the largest and oldest breeding organisation for purebred dog breeders (now known as Dogs Australia). As a DOGS NSW Registered Breeder, I am not permitted to sell any puppies without pedigree papers or breed any dogs that are not registered on the Main Register of the DOGS AUSTRALIA National Database. I am bound by a strict code of ethics that covers responsible dog ownership and breeder responsibilities relating to the keeping, welfare, breeding and selling of dogs. My membership with these governing bodies ensures that you will get a healthy, happy and well adjusted puppy.
All Golden retrievers and Labrador Retrievers being used in a breeding program should have their hips and elbows tested for dysplasia, a clear eye certificate and a breed-specific DNA-based genetic test to identify the carriers of around 50 hereditary diseases. At Fairway Creek, we test all our dogs for these genetics and ensure there is nothing indicating a health issue before we breed from them. This information is not only important for us, it is part of the necessary testing for an ANKC breeder. Interestingly, we can also test our Labradors for traits such as coat colour.
Before applying for a Prefix and becoming a registered ANKC breeder, individuals must undergo thorough scrutiny. This includes a facility inspection by a DOGS NSW / DOGS AUSTRALIA representative, as well as examinations assessing knowledge in conformation, feeding, health, care, and adherence to the code of ethics of the Kennel club ethics. Failure to comply may lead to penalties and suspension from the association. Every ANKC breeder that is advertised on Dogzonline and NSW dogs as well as each individual state governing body will be bound by this code of ethics. You know the puppy you are getting is of sound health and temperament.
